A Filipino And His Family

image

The love for family is the quintessence by which a Filipino dwells upon. He was molded to put value on his family above all. His dreams and aspirations are fashioned after his great love for parents
and siblings. And from that devotion naturally flowed many of his other praise-worthy traits:

His zeal for work,

his hospitality,

his bayanihan spirit,

his loyalty to country

and pride for his fellowmen.

1. Every hardworking Filipino offers the fruits of his labor to his family.

His industriousness is a brand of his faithfulness and loyalty to them.

Should you ask any manong guard, mamang sorbetero, mamang magbabalut, mamang magtataho, magfi- fishball at mag bobote’t dyaryo, they won’t hesitate to answer who they’re dedicating their hardwork to.

” Para sa pamilya namin sa Bicol, sa Bisaya o para sa anak kong nag -aaral. “

An Overseas Filipino Worker‘s motivation is his folks back home.

He is generous to a fault where his family is concern.

Evident of his priority in life – what or who is more important than himself -are the items inside his balikbayan boxes.

He sends back home imported coffee, coffee cream, canned goods, spam, corned beef and toiletries.

They speak so much of whose lives he wants to be made comfortable
-at least on a day to day existence.
Even his being matiisin -his ability to persevere -stems from his love for family.

He does not mind the extreme weather of the foreign country he may be in, whether sweltering or freezing .

He does not at all mind the extreme reception of the different people he may encounter – too harsh, too rough or too cold. He is willing to work hard and sacrifice for his family. He always has good news for his family back home while keeping those not so nice ones to himself. And when he comes home from abroad, imagine that great number of family members who go to the airport to fetch him?
” Isang barangay ang sundo. “

While a drum and bugle corps going with them would not be, farfetched ( pardon the pun.)

( Yes, I am proud of this country and its airport’s arrival area. It is a happy place, -a delightful family venue following Luneta
and Jollibee. )

2. Every hospitable Filipino’s heart generate from a mind-set that he must treat his guests like they are family.

He gets along with others well . He is accommodating and cheerful whatever the setting is. It is because he believes everyone is family.

” Elevator-operator-girl from Olongapo affords to be cheerful just
like that, as people step in and off the elevator.
While her job requires her to stay for hours in that enclosed space. “

Hotel guests abroad love most of the Filipino hotel employees because of their willingness to serve.

And here in the country many tourists who come visiting could attest to how hospitable Filipinos are.

3. Every Filipino’s bayanihan spirit may be inferential from his appreciation of his kith and kin.

Like his own brother, he never leaves behind his fellowmen in the middle of a flooded metro.
“Walang Iwanan.”

His strength in character, his opinions and even his text votes show his great support to his countrymen, like they are his next of kin.
( While taxpayers gave up their taxes for the country, thinking it

really went to the country and their countrymen.)

4. Every Pinoy pride felt for this country emanated from the
high regard for familial ties.

He holds great respect for his kababayan or countrymen. He is inspired by his own countrymen like he is bound to them by blood and not just by race. Those who brought honor to this land know how proud their countrymen are of them.

A Filipino shows his unwavering support for his singers, entertainers, you-tube sensations, beauty queens, basketball teams, athletes, billiard players and boxing champs like they are family.

In victory or in defeat he supports his kababayans.

The one time infamous Marquez punch that landed on Manny’s face also landed on Aparri down to Jolo. It was the saddest day for many Filipinos. But everybody knows he remains ” The People’s Champ.”

Miss Philippines’ heartfelt victory as Miss World was not Megan’s alone.

As her name was announced as the winner, every woman at home, sitting down and watching on their t.v. sets, also stepped forward from their chairs as if to receive the crown themselves.

The win of team Gilas for a ticket to Spain was won also through the 6th man- the roaring Filipino crowd at the S.M. Arena.

” Hindi lang pampamilya, pang isports pa. “

( But with the exception however of corrupt officials. Their political dynasties are of course not products of love
for family but for greed.)

5. Even his country’s major television networks which produce his favorite teleseryes are reflections of the innate stuff a Filipino is made of.

His heart, his family and his brotherhood. ( A kapuso, a kapamilya and a kapatid. )

Others may have unfavorable opinions on this exclusive habitude of a Filipino. And that is of ” always looking for Filipino lineage in every one he might meet or see on t.v. “

Remarkably however, many of those talented singers who joined ” Britain’s Got Talent” and ” American Idol ” turned out to have Filipino blood in them.

Besides, didn’t Ellen de Generes once ” tweeted ” that some of the best singers are from the Philippines? And half-Filipino is celebration enough.

” Half Filipino- half Spanish “
” Half Filipino- half yoda “

” Half Filipino- half minion “
” Half Filipino- Half malampaya ( or whole )
” Half Filipino- half porkbarrel ” ( or full )

( Then there are however instances of course where the country experiences zero-Filipino to seventy percent-legislators and thirty percent-JLN.)

Others may have an unenthusiastic perception on a Filipino’s love for family and his super-extended family. However, he still persists because that is where the pith of his happiness lies. The hearts of many Filipinos rest on their families.

Many good traits of a Filipino like his dedication, his cheerfulness, his compassion and his pride for country are trickle down effects of his love for family.

He is water-proofed beyond any doubt for he stays that way for them.
Just like many Filipinos, I love my country like I truly do my family.
