Wearing: Four Movies And Two Sitcoms Later

Back then, when I was young and at an extremely impressionable age, the things I saw and read, highly affected my perception on things.

So much so that, many of those, persisted in my adult life, just like those that have greatly influenced my personal style, for instance.

People may categorize my way of dressing, as obviously, casual and youthful , (with every bit of effort in doing so) , but without sacrificing femininity and maturity.

All in the name of striking a balance: Color blocks, prints on prints, floral patterns, lace, jeans, denim, sneakers, flats, earth tones, neons, pastels and pinks.

There were four foreign movies and two foreign television shows that I have watched, in my tween and teen years, which initiated my appreciation for clothes.

Three of those movies featured my then favorite teen actress , Molly Ringwald and the dresses she wore:

1. PRETTY IN PINK

My favorite lines in the movie:

Andie: ” You know you’re talking like that just because I’m going out with Blane. “

Duckie: ” His name is Blane? Oh! That’s a major appliance, that’s not a name!”

2. SIXTEEN CANDLES

My favorite lines in the movie:

Samantha: ” May I be excused? ”

Grandma Helen: ” Where are you going?”

Samantha: ” I have a dance to go to at school. It’s a very important dance… we’re being graded on it for Gym. “

3. THE BREAKFAST CLUB

My favorite line in the movie:

John Bender: ” Does Barry Manilow know that you raid his wardrobe? “

And everything MOLLY:

There was also this movie that I liked, which inspired one of my highschool classmates, VANESSA GAY CUYONG-NG to have her long hair, snipped off, ( cropped) just like that of Mary Stuart Masterson’s character, Watts in :

4. SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL

My favorite lines in the movie:

Watts: ” You break his heart, I break your face. ”

And everything about MARY…

As for television shows:

1. PUNKY BREWSTER

Soleil Moonfrye.

In my time I guess just like Rainbow Brite, every tweener loved Punky’s look.
( including her house, her room and her bed! )

and still looking great nowadays:

2. THE COSBY SHOW

I loved the Huxtables!

Bill, Claire, Sondra, Denise, Theo, Vanessa and Rudy.

But of course I fell in love with the clothes of Denise , the character that actress Lisa Bonét portrayed.

So as Rachelle Zoe said in page 12 of her book, ” Style fom A to Zoe, “

” Be Yourself.
Don’t copy.
But do draw inspiration.
Interpret it.
Otherwise you risk being a fashion victim, instead of someone
with great personal style.”

As I have said early on, color blocks, prints on prints, floral patterns, lace, jeans, denim, sneakers, flats, earth tones, neons, pastels and pinks:

And four movies and two sitcoms later…
