Any Given Sunday

Often times, LIFE could overratedly be tough on us.

Out of an already-arduous struggle, LIFE -in its game of Russian Roulette would decide to give us, an ultimatum:

“Make or break”. Or “Do or die”

Just when we only wanted to appear on a cameo role, we suddenly get the title role in,

” DAYS OF OUR LIVES “.

( and we were not even gunning for a Golden Globe. )

Evidently, those endless games with success: of peek-a-boos and hide & seeks, did not suffice.

Life, would in fact, dare include us, in a series of ” undesirable ” events.

As if we were part, of its lexicon of unparalleled personal amusements.

” You gotta be kidding me, ” I would often hear myself say, when something-of-this-battering-ram-sort-of-trial, would keep on advancing towards me and my life.

THEN,

AL PACINO COMES IN.

He steps inside the room which is reeking with FAILURES and REGRETS, and he SAYS:

” On any given Sunday you’re gonna win or you’re gonna lose.

The point is – can you win or lose like a man? ”

In the movie, ANY GIVEN SUNDAY, Al Pacino’s character, “Tony D’Amato ” delivered those words in a too compelling manner that my take on those words, might had slightly differed, with how others might had perceived it.

More than having understood it as :

” Either you give out your best shot, in achieving something and winning it real hard
OR you just put on your best effort in accepting your loss. ”
,

I had imbibed it as:

” If you do not know how to lose like a man, then don’t lose,
WIN. “

And in trying times, it can be one those great tenets of wisdom to abide by. Besides, if we just do not make a good loser, then let’s try winning. We want to win, then, lezzzzzzgo win it . Besides, losing had already broke our hearts, bodies and souls. It is not anymore about losing, because we already did and we already are.

We lost.

We failed.

We sulked.

We self pitied.

We were filled with regrets.

We thought of what might had been.

We wasted our time. (anything and everything else )

We made a sore loser.

We became miserable and we spent a grand time, in making others miserable too. AND of course we DID get tired of staying there.

Therefore we try something else, like winning. It might suit us better, you know.

IF we want to un-fail then we have to succeed:
( what else is left to do? )

We want it. Then we will it. We get up. We dust ourselves off. We pattern our lives after it.We spend time for it We work hard, harder and hardest for it.
Then we work hard, harder and hardest for it AGAIN.

We shun away from the very same things that brought us to failure, in the first place.
We focus on nothing else, but winning.

After which, we go back to AL PACINO and in a room screaming of success this time, we say,

” You were an even effective actor, as Tony than you were as
Michael Corleone,
SO THANKS.”

From now on,

Let this be our battle cry,

” ANY GIVEN SUNDAY! ”
